Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies relevant advantages—career opportunities, earning income to pay academic fees—and a disadvantage involving travel and living costs. However, it does not clearly answer the central question of whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages: no definite comparative position is stated. The ideas are also only briefly explained, and the final example is cut off at “needy individuals have not the,” leaving the disadvantage undeveloped. The response is substantially below the required 250 words, which limits the opportunity to explain and support its points. To improve, state your view directly in the introduction and conclusion, then develop both sides with complete explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction and two body paragraphs, and “Firstly,” “In addition,” and “Secondly” signal the sequence of points. This gives the reader some sense of direction. However, the progression is limited: the first paragraph combines several loosely connected benefits, while the second ends mid-sentence, so the argument has no complete development or conclusion. Linking phrases such as “For instance” introduce examples, but the examples mostly repeat the preceding claim rather than extend it. Use one clear main idea per paragraph, explain how it supports your position, and finish with a conclusion that directly compares the advantages and disadvantages.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response attempts vocabulary relevant to education, employment, and costs, including “career opportunity,” “living costs,” and “academic fee.” These choices make the general topic understandable, but word choice and spelling are often inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. Examples include “career positioning” for a work placement, “higher eductional opportunity,” “site for work,” and “fullfil.” Some phrases, such as “health and better and convenient transport,” are difficult to interpret in context. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “work placement,” “tuition fees,” and “accommodation expenses” would help express the relevant ideas clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, for example the sentence beginning “For instance” and the contrast introduced by “Secondly.” However, control of sentence structure is inconsistent, and errors frequently affect clarity. Examples include “It is often argue” instead of a correctly formed passive, “All higher education institute should doing,” and “Every student are.” Articles, agreement, verb forms, and punctuation also need attention; capital letters after commas and repeated commas interrupt the sentences. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “because” or “although.” Proofread each sentence for a clear subject, correctly formed verb, and appropriate punctuation.
