Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad or work placements. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention benefits like practical experience and language skills, and drawbacks like costs and adjustment issues, these points are presented as a list rather than being fully extended or supported with specific examples. The position is clear, but the overall argument lacks depth and analytical rigor. To improve, ensure each main idea is supported by a clear explanation or a concrete example to demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'Examining the brighter side of if the provide'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'Moreover' and 'On the contrary', the logical progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of smooth transitions and clear sentence relationships. Improving the variety and accuracy of cohesive devices will help the essay read more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'corns and pros' instead of 'pros and cons', and 'inter ship' instead of 'internship'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the phrasing is often unnatural, which occasionally makes it difficult to follow your intended meaning. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct context. Expanding your range of synonyms and learning common collocations will significantly improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('mostly university are undergraduate courses'), sentence fragments, and incorrect word order. There is a limited range of complex structures, and the attempts at them are often faulty, which impacts the clarity of your writing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors requires the reader to work harder to understand your points. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb forms is essential.
