Student answer (Band 6.5)

Opinions are divided on whether undergraduate programme should have time or a period to allocate towards studying abroad or excute work placement. Further i have discussed advantages and disadvantages of these and whats more beneficial. In my opinion, i agree towards the idea of spending time studying abroad or do a work placement.

Firstly, university which have an undergraduate program which can offer an opportunity to students to opt for stuyding abroad for certain time duration or do work placement their, which can help gain more work experience as well as an individual can become self-reliant. For example, in engineering a students fifth or sixth sem can be introduced in exchange student program where they can bring foreign students and few students to their university which could give exposure to their culture as well as knowledge, also selecting students on the basis of merit to give fair chance to everyone. Doing internships can also give ideas of how system works overthere.

Secondly, the disadvantages could be the expense which gets along with it. Doing due diligence on each and every student to get a greater outcome out of these program. The inital cost for the university is much higher then expected, as well as tying relations with the foreign university is not easy. The co-relation between two university to see a better outcome is limited as well as their are hidden expenses and lengthy process which can create hinderance for these type of program. Expenses which needs to be carried by students also is a problem as everyone would not be ready for these kind of expenses.

In my opinion, yes their should be a course in undergraduate for studying in foreign for specific time being, while the cost should be beared by college for living and studying, though flight tickets and other documents should be taken care by students which can ease the burden on both. As well as help to increase the productivity out from these program.

In conclusion, every university should have an option for undergraduates to spent some time for studying abroad or do some work placement which can help in their future careers as well as improve their skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages and clearly states a position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The paragraph on disadvantages is a bit repetitive, focusing heavily on costs and logistical difficulties without fully exploring the broader educational or personal implications. The engineering example is relevant but could be more clearly linked to the overall argument. While the position is consistent, the depth of analysis is limited, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear, logical reasoning rather than just listing potential problems.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing or grammatical slips. For instance, the transition between the discussion of expenses and the logistical difficulties in the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a more professional academic tone.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use more academic language, such as 'due diligence', 'hinderance', and 'productivity', though some word choices are slightly imprecise or used in contexts that feel unnatural, such as 'excute work placement' or 'co-relation between two university'. Spelling errors like 'stuyding' and 'inital' are present but do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on more precise collocations and ensure that academic vocabulary is used accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('university which have', 'expenses which needs'), article usage, and prepositions ('in engineering a students fifth or sixth sem'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures and proofreading for basic agreement errors would significantly improve the score.
