Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is an opinion that all faculties in universities must assign a period of time spent international study or employment opportunities. In my point of view, I strongly believe that this should be must in all courses in every educational institutes.

There is enough evidence that university undergraduates have performed better who completed their internship and part of their courses in abroad. In institute where I used to study there is a program called student exchange where I was also part of that program and I got an opportunity to work in UAE where I learnt their working process and polished myself from the courses they taught me. That program was proved fruitful for me as I learnt their working culture and also new techniques.

Although there are lots of merit of getting opportunity to learn and working abroad during university courses, there are some demerits too. One of the most relevant examples is students have been struggling to communicate during their tenure in abroad job. There is mis concept that in every country person speaks English, but it is just a myth as English learning is not globalized yet. Once my friend was placed in Japan and his Japanese language sense was almost nil and he struggled a lot and he told me that he had suffered a lot which was one of his bad experiences.

To sum up, although there are some disadvantages of including a part of course in abroad study due to desensitization, I ultimately believe that such opportunities will polish a person with skill and innovative ideas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of mandatory study abroad or work placements. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example regarding the UAE and a friend's experience in Japan, the arguments remain anecdotal rather than analytical. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the broader societal or academic benefits beyond personal experience, such as the impact on global employability or cultural competence. The conclusion is brief and reiterates your stance, but the overall development is slightly thin for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'In my point of view', and 'To sum up' to link ideas. However, the transition between sentences can feel a bit mechanical, and some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'due to desensitization' in the conclusion, which does not clearly link back to the points made in the body paragraphs. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows more naturally into the next would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fruitful', 'tenure', and 'innovative'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'mis concept' (misconception), 'language sense was almost nil' (limited proficiency), and 'must in all courses' (a requirement). These errors occasionally hinder the precision of your expression. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and ensure you are using academic terminology accurately rather than translating directly from your first language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('in abroad job'), subject-verb agreement ('university undergraduates have performed better who completed'), and word order. Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'There is an opinion that all faculties in universities must assign a period of time spent international study'. To achieve a higher band, you need to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules like preposition usage and article placement.
