Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of mandatory study abroad or work placements. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the example provided about 'scientists doing experiments' is vague and lacks credibility, which weakens the argument. While a position is stated in the introduction, the conclusion is slightly repetitive and does not clearly synthesise the arguments to provide a definitive stance on whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. To improve, ensure that examples are more realistic and that the conclusion directly answers the prompt's core question regarding the balance of pros and cons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'which is bring many positive things'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the scientist's experiment and the topic is not well-integrated. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'painking' (likely meaning panicking), 'colleagues ignorance', and 'youngsters are more active on their education'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'internship', 'curriculum', and 'psychological strain', the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'all University undergraduate course include'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'unless they doing a work placement'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
