Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 168 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you attempt to address the prompt by discussing the merits and demerits of studying abroad or work placements, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The position is stated but not fully explored or sustained throughout the essay. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and specific examples, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for a full discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the one hand', and 'Furthermore', but their usage is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraph is abrupt. To improve, focus on creating a more logical flow between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph develops a single, clear idea. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'these') is clear will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'carrier' instead of 'career', 'deferent' instead of 'different', and 'streamline' used incorrectly. Phrases like 'vast details on carrier' and 'bolster their communication skill' are imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and ensure correct collocations. Focus on learning the correct spelling and usage of common professional and academic terms, and try to avoid repeating the same words throughout your response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('education centers includes'), article usage ('the one of the top'), and sentence structure ('students who pursuing oversea education'). The range of structures is limited, and the errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of relative clauses and verb tenses. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms will significantly improve your accuracy. Aim to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures once you have established a stronger foundation in basic grammar.
