All university undergraduate courses should include a period of time spent studying abroad or doing a work placement.

Do you think the advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

I largely agree that instiutions should inlcude a course related to study abroad or encourage students to participate in internship programs. These courses are vital for the idividual growth, enables them to

explore other's cultural traditions and exposure to high-quality education.

The prime reason is that studying abroad help students to explore others culture and traditions as well access to world class education. This is because they spent their time with differents countries people during study and make new friends. As a result, they learn new languages, cultural norms and try to adjust themselves according to their environment. For example, many students who want to study aborad always try to familiar themselves with local culture and language. As they believe that these things make their daily life easier.

Another important reason is that currently many universities have contracted with numerous organizations to facilitate students with practical work. This is becuase it enables the students to interact with industries experts and learn about production processes. Therefore individuals will have the opportunity to build and sharp their skills, which are not only crucial for their professional career but also enhances their chances

of getting job after graduation. For instance, now many employers have great expectations from students after graduation such as work experience during study and proof of work.

Some people agrue that study aborad is costly,as it is only for short time opportunity so why should we spend to much during study.Although, this concern is valid, it can be adressed by targeting scholarships, study exchange programs. As many institutions have links with international institutes that also promote semster exchange programs for undergraduate students at a low cost.

Therefore, i strongly support the view that every student should be encouraged to study abroad and must involve themselves in pratical skills related to their studies, becuase these opportunities help them in their

professional life but also in growth of their career.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of mandatory study abroad or work placements. The ideas are relevant, focusing on cultural exposure and professional development. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding work placements mentions 'production processes' but does not elaborate on how this specifically benefits the student's long-term career beyond a general statement. The counter-argument regarding cost is addressed, but the response would benefit from more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'The prime reason', 'Another important reason', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'these things make their daily life easier', where the antecedent is slightly vague. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'facilitate', 'crucial', and 'addressing', but there are also persistent spelling errors (e.g., 'instiutions', 'inlcude', 'idividual', 'aborad', 'becuase', 'pratical'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. The student uses some collocations correctly, but the overall lexical range is not sufficiently wide or sophisticated to reach the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'studying abroad help students') and article usage (e.g., 'explore others culture'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. While the student attempts complex structures, they are often marred by these errors. The control of grammar is sufficient to ensure the message is understood, but the frequency of errors prevents a higher score.
