Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the benefits of studying abroad or work placements. However, the position is not clearly established or maintained throughout. While you mention that students 'should' have these opportunities, the essay lacks a balanced discussion of the disadvantages, which is required to fully address the 'do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages' aspect of the prompt. The ideas are somewhat repetitive and lack specific, concrete examples to support the claims, resulting in an under-developed argument. To improve, ensure you explicitly weigh the pros and cons and provide illustrative examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Thus', the flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and logical gaps. For instance, the transition from the general introduction about modern life to the specific topic of university placements is abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the relationship between ideas is not always explicitly stated. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms such as 'good', 'life', and 'things', which restricts your ability to express complex ideas precisely. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'bounded with only one place' instead of 'confined to one location' and 'more good way' instead of 'more effective manner'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word formation and usage prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations is essential.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('the life has changes', 'students... should got'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain structural errors, such as 'rather it is physically or mentally', which is grammatically incorrect. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically verb tenses and pluralisation, before attempting more complex grammatical forms. Proofreading for basic errors is highly recommended.
