All university undergraduate courses should include a period of time spent studying abroad or doing a work placement.
Do you think the advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It widely believed that most universities should add a period of time spent studying in foreign countries or doing a work placement to gain valuable experience. Although this development has both advantages and disadvantages, I believe that the advantages outweigh the drawbacks.
On the one hand, studying abroad offers several significant benefits. One major advantages is that students gets exposure to learn something very important in a culture, where they are aware about their language and most important thing away from your family. Moreover, adding this in undergraduates studies will be a more valuable to motivate others who are planning to go abroad for their postgraduates studies. For instance, having a course about experiencing the tough journey or time they spent would be helpful for them. Another advantage is that the time they spent doing work placement for any organisation, will give them practical exposure about market competence. As a result of, they can know how market work in real world and most people are struggling to get an employment.
On the other hand, there are also some drawbacks associated with these addition. One major drawback is that some students finds it difficult to get employment for fulfilling the requirement of course if addition is confirmed and some might not have enough resources or interest in studying abroad. For example, if university requires, students have to complete their work placement in before the completion of their undergraduates studies which can leads to stress and depression and most students do study just for specific requirement. Despite these drawbacks, I believe that advantages are more significant because this addition should ensure grooming of students before starting their professional career.
To conclude this essay, although adding a time of international study and work placement as course has some drawbacks, I believe benefits outweigh its disadvantages. This is mainly because foreign culture and professional experience have greater overall impact than drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, covering both cultural exposure and professional development. However, some arguments are under-developed. For example, the point about students struggling with employment to fulfill course requirements is mentioned but lacks a clear explanation of why this is a systemic issue. The essay maintains a consistent position throughout, but the supporting examples, such as the mention of 'stress and depression', are somewhat generalised. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, concrete examples to support your claims rather than relying on broad statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'As a result of, they can know how market work'. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, particularly in the second body paragraph. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'professional career' and 'practical exposure', but there are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'grooming of students' (which is often used in a different context) and 'market competence'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and there are minor inaccuracies that occasionally hinder the precision of the argument. Expanding your range of academic collocations and ensuring words are used in their correct context would improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('students gets', 'some students finds'), missing articles ('in before the completion'), and awkward phrasing ('can leads to'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence structures are constructed with greater accuracy.
