IELTS Writing Task 2 question
All university undergraduate courses should include a period of time spent studying abroad or doing a work placement.
Do you think the advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that all the bachelor programs must have a course which allows student to study abroad or doing a work placement. It gives students hands-on experience relevant to their fields and international exposure in the form of studies or internships. This essay will shed light on the advantages of including such courses at university level while suggesting that its benefits will surely outweigh the drawbacks.
First of all, adding a practical course into a 2-years or 4-years bachelors degree will results in first-hand knowledge about the relevant subject. If students are allowed to visit another country and get educational or professional opportunities then they will get relevant experience regarding their subject of knowledge. For example, students who are studying through ERASMUS MUNDAS scholarships will visit almost 3-4 countries during their degree and get different aspects of same field of study.
Secondly, it leads to international exposure. Students are allowed to get cultural insights about the visiting country. They meet new people and observe their way of life. They can compare thier own country's facilities with the visiting country. In this way, if they learn something interesting or beneficial from the hosting state, they will be able to apply that knowledge in their own country. For instance, international students learn about the educational policies of other country and are surprised to know how much their own curriculum is diferent.
In conclusion, including an international course into all university undergraduate courses will prove beneficial. Although it seems difficult to manage but it helps in getting experience and international exposure will make students more productive and efficient.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, focusing on practical experience and international exposure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the mention of 'ERASMUS MUNDAS' is a good start, but the explanation of how this specifically benefits all undergraduate students could be more detailed. The conclusion is a bit brief and repeats points already made without adding a final synthesis. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more thorough exploration of the implications of the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some referencing is slightly repetitive. For example, the transition between the benefits of cultural insights and the application of knowledge could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the central topic of each paragraph is clear, which helps the reader follow the argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'hands-on experience' and 'cultural insights'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and spelling errors, such as 'diferent' instead of 'different' and 'thier' instead of 'their'. The range is sufficient to convey the message, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Expanding the range of collocations and ensuring accurate spelling would improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. For example, 'must have a course which allows student to study' should be 'students', and 'will results in' should be 'will result in'. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'other country' instead of 'other countries'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is recommended.
