Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas regarding skill development and financial independence are relevant and supported with examples. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the arguments could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. For instance, the mention of 'cultural values' in the conclusion is not adequately developed in the body paragraphs. The response is balanced, but the depth of analysis is limited, which keeps it at a solid mid-range level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'Another significant advantage', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly awkward or mechanical, such as 'To embark upon' and 'Moving towards', which are not standard idiomatic phrases for essay structure. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the connection between work placements and 'peaceful atmosphere' is not fully explained. Paragraphing is present, but the flow between sentences could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'interpersonal', 'time-management', and 'international students'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'do not make pressure on parents' (instead of 'do not place a financial burden on parents') and 'giving a time period' (instead of 'incorporating a period'). The range is sufficient to communicate, but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('education and social skills plays', 'sectors needs', 'students... continues'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('solve problem by own'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to indicate a lack of control over complex structures, which is characteristic of a band 5.5 or 6.0 level.
