Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's digital era, it is often argued by some people that during graduation, the universities should provide a chance to spend a limited time in abroad or an internship in any workplace. Although some might consider it negative, I believe it to be extremely significant. Not only because of gaining experience and learning skills, but also because of improving communication skills and enhancing confidence.

There are multiple benefits associated with this development. Firstly, if an institute gives an opportunity of internship to students, they will achieve experience of working with a team and learn how to work in a stressful environment. Take an example of Israil, where it is believed that practical is more beneficial than theory. Thus, during degree completion experience on any workplace can improves the practical skills of a learner.

Secondly, apart from practicality, the candidates learn new skills. As they work with a company or firm learners have a chance to explore their hidden talents and try to make variety in creative skills. For instance, the Education Minister of Japan recently said that internship should be compulsory for the university pupils. Hence, during studies, working at workplace is significantly beneficial.

Finally, I believe that if the universities arrange foreign visits for students, they will learn different cultures and languages which can be beneficial for bright future.

To sum up, although some people argue that short foreign tours and internships can distract the attention of the learners. I believe that during studies work and short visits can play a crucial role in personality grooming, skill-development and innovation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of the proposal. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention benefits like skill acquisition and cultural awareness, the arguments lack depth and specific analysis. For instance, the example regarding Israel is vague, and the connection between the Education Minister of Japan's statement and the broader argument could be more explicitly linked to the advantages of the policy. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides a more thorough explanation of 'why' and 'how' these experiences benefit students, rather than simply stating that they are beneficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Finally', and 'To sum up' to guide the reader. However, the transition between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For example, the jump from the general statement about internships to the example of Israel feels abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this development' to refer back to the prompt's topic. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'internship', 'practical skills', and 'personality grooming'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'spend a limited time in abroad' (should be 'abroad') and 'experience on any workplace' (should be 'in any workplace'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'working at workplace' or 'beneficial' used multiple times.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. Examples include 'during graduation, the universities' (should be 'during their studies'), 'can improves' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'in abroad' (preposition error). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure could be more varied to demonstrate better control. To achieve a higher score, focus on correcting basic subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, and try to incorporate more complex sentence forms with greater accuracy.
