Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the score. While the essay attempts to address the prompt, the position is unclear and poorly developed. The arguments regarding financial independence and stress are repetitive and lack logical depth. The examples provided, such as the mention of suicide in India, are extreme and not effectively linked to the core argument about university courses. The essay lacks a clear, consistent position throughout, and the ideas are significantly under-developed, resulting in a response that only partially addresses the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed and confusing. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'To justify' and 'Moreover'. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively separate distinct ideas, and the overall structure feels mechanical and lacks logical flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, often relying on basic words that do not accurately convey the intended meaning. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'forgen', 'prodinent', 'penise', 'reastwments', and 'Nevetlers'. The word choice is frequently inappropriate for an academic context, such as using 'jobs' to refer to work placements. The lack of variety and the high frequency of errors significantly hinder communication and demonstrate a very restricted range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede understanding. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, with many sentences being fragmented or run-on. Subject-verb agreement is consistently problematic, for example, 'students not waste the money' and 'they doing job'. Punctuation is also misused, particularly with the inclusion of unnecessary colons and hyphens. The range of structures is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences, with no successful attempts at complex grammatical forms.
