Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is a template that fails to address the specific prompt regarding studying abroad or work placements. It uses placeholders like [TOPIC], [VIEW 1], and [REASON] rather than engaging with the actual subject matter. Consequently, the task is not addressed, and there is no development of ideas or a clear position on the issue. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum requirement, which significantly impacts the score. To improve, you must write original content that directly answers the specific question asked in the prompt rather than relying on generic structures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay follows a standard structure with clear paragraphing and logical connectors such as 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion'. However, because the content consists entirely of placeholders, the logical flow is artificial. Cohesive devices are used mechanically, but they do not serve to connect actual ideas or arguments. While the structure is technically present, the lack of substantive content makes it impossible to evaluate the progression of ideas effectively. To improve, focus on developing coherent arguments that flow logically from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is limited to the functional language of essay writing (e.g., 'significant benefits', 'valid reasons', 'convincing'). There is no attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary related to education, international experience, or professional development because the essay does not discuss these topics. The range is insufficient to demonstrate any flexibility or precision. To improve, you need to incorporate academic vocabulary relevant to the specific topic, such as 'cross-cultural competence', 'professional immersion', or 'global perspective'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical structures used in the template are generally accurate and error-free, including the use of complex sentences like 'Although there are valid arguments in favour of [VIEW 1], I believe that [YOUR OPINION] is more convincing.' However, the range is limited to the repetitive structure of the template. Because the essay is essentially a fill-in-the-blank exercise, it does not demonstrate the ability to construct a variety of complex sentences to express nuanced ideas. Future efforts should focus on writing original, complex sentences that convey specific arguments.
