Student answer (Band 6.0)

Implementing mandatory study abroad programs and professional work placement into all university undergraduate programs is a controversial topic in this modern world. I agree with this as students get international exposures to learn global cultures and perspectives. It also helps them to grow themselves in the international market.

Immersing students in a foreign culture dismantles ethnocentric viewpoints. The way they get opportunity to enroll in an international job markets aid them to adapt into that environment. The global studying materials, lecturers, friend circles enhance their thinking ability of the students to outperform globally. For example, Anil Keshari Singh, a renowned banker of Nepal, graduated from the Lincoln university of east London. He got the opportunity to know the banking industries globally and turns that knowledge into the banks of Nepal. Now in short period of time, he is at the top position in banking industries of Nepal.

Despite its advantages, it carries out disadvantages as well. The adoption of western cultures neglecting own traditions turns to its inexistence in the future. The migration of skilled workforce is another major issue to the implementation of the abroad study time and work placement in foreign countries. Once the students get opportunity to work abroad, they tend to move there along with their families in the long run which definitely leads to the shortage of human resources within the nation. For example, alot of pupils of Nepal migrated to other nations for study and work which leads to the decline in the number of youths and skilled manpower within the country. It hinders the actual development of a country.

In stark contrast, the undergraduate courses should have to implement abroad study programs and provide the work placement opportunity for a certain period of time, mandating the compulsorily to apply their learned knowledge and skills in their own nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, while acknowledging the drawbacks. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of cultural exposure and the risks of brain drain. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The example of the banker is specific but could be more effectively linked to the core argument about undergraduate education. The conclusion introduces a new condition (mandating return to home countries) that was not fully explored in the body paragraphs, which slightly weakens the overall development of the argument. Overall, the response is well-focused on the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Despite its advantages' and 'In stark contrast', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'The way they get opportunity to enroll in an international job markets aid them'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the advantages, disadvantages, and the final stance, contributing to a coherent overall structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'ethnocentric' and 'inexistence', though the latter is used slightly unnaturally. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'grow themselves' instead of 'develop professionally' or 'enhance their thinking ability'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'in short period of time' (missing an article). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the Lincoln university', 'the banking industries'), subject-verb agreement ('the way they get opportunity... aid them'), and pluralization ('alot of pupils'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'mandating the compulsorily to apply their learned knowledge'. These errors do not typically impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. A greater variety of error-free complex structures would be needed for a band 7.
