Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether the advantages of studying abroad or doing a work placement outweigh the disadvantages. However, the position is not fully clear throughout, as the writer mixes arguments about studying abroad and work placements without explicitly weighing their overall merits or addressing the counter-balance of disadvantages. Furthermore, the response is penalised for length because it fails to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words, coming in at only 220 words. Consequently, ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed, aligning with the criteria for Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The text suffers from significant structural and mechanical issues. The paragraphing is poorly handled, with the vast majority of the text lumped into a single dense block after the initial short introduction, lacking clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inappropriately, such as lowercase beginnings after punctuation ('when student', 'moreover , It', 'additionally you have to more time'). Referencing is also occasionally unclear. This demonstrates an arrangement that falls short of Band 6, placing it firmly at Band 4.5 due to faulty cohesion and a lack of logical organisation.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts to use some professional and academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'international corporate sector', 'exposure', and 'complications'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'tranistion', 'well develop machines', and 'boast their confidence' (instead of 'boost'). There are also recurring spelling and punctuation issues ('selve', 'tthlts'). While there is a minimally adequate range for the task, the frequent lexical inaccuracies and mechanical errors mean it sits securely at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'This is the chance for them to apply their knowledge what they learn in the classroom'. However, the text is marred by frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('student from a university... spent their time', 'they takes time'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing prepositions. Punctuation errors are also prevalent throughout the response. Because these frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader and accurate complex structures are rare, the grammar score is Band 5.0.
