Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by attempting to discuss both advantages and disadvantages of including study abroad or work placements in undergraduate degrees, taking a clear position that advantages outweigh disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times repetitive. For instance, the discussion on advantages mentions communication and confidence, while the disadvantages focus briefly on expenses and stress. Some examples provided, such as 'Chandigarh university sent 20 childs to abroad', are vague, anecdotal, and lack sufficient elaboration to fully support the argument. This places the response firmly at Band 5.0, as it addresses the task and presents a position, but the ideas remain underdeveloped and rely on sweeping generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organized into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic overall structure. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and poor sentence linking. For example, the phrase 'On the other hand, the coin have two sides so negative points can not be ignored' attempts a cohesive link but results in unnatural phrasing and mechanical cohesion. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the dangling subject in 'For instance in Patiala unversity came back from forgein because they do not much time studies.' Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak, justifying a band score of 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with frequent word choice and collocation errors that impact the quality of the writing. Examples of inaccurate lexical choices include 'education plays part and partial role' (instead of integral role), 'time of spent in overseas', and 'childs' (instead of students or children). Spelling mistakes are also present throughout the text, such as 'advatages', 'abrod', 'laern', 'cultue', 'expensis', and 'devlopment'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, the numerous inaccuracies in word formation and spelling restrict the score to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the positive interpretation of communication being achieved.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mainly of simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. Grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the education plays', 'the coin have'), missing auxiliary verbs ('because they do not much time studies'), and incorrect prepositions ('work their for living expensis'). Punctuation is also poorly handled, with run-on sentences and missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'i dicuss', 'moreover'). These persistent errors often cause difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 4.5 to 5.0 descriptors, resulting in a score of 5.0.
