Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether studying abroad or doing a work placement should be included in undergraduate courses, and whether advantages outweigh disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is quite limited and confused. The student presents studying abroad and work placements as two separate things to choose between, rather than evaluating them together as potential components of a university course. Furthermore, the position is not consistently maintained or clearly articulated throughout the text, as the writer shifts abruptly from discussing studying abroad to disagreeing with work placements due to homesickness and early mornings. Consequently, the ideas are under-developed, placing this response firmly in the band 4 range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text suffers from a lack of logical organisation and clear progression. While there are some transitional markers used like 'frist of one' and 'In step 2', the overarching structure is fragmented with numerous very short, broken paragraphs and single-sentence lines. Cohesive devices are frequently misused, repetitive, or mechanically applied, making it difficult for the reader to follow a cohesive argument. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate main ideas, and referencing between sentences is often unclear, resulting in an arrangement that falls short of coherence requirements.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily impacted by spelling and word-choice errors. Examples such as 'easy' for essay, 'aboard' for abroad, 'dippersion' for depression, and 'scikness' for sickness demonstrate a very limited lexical range. While the writer attempts to use some less common words like 'advantges', 'knowleg', and 'experince', frequent spelling mistakes and inaccurate word forms severely strain the reader and obscure meaning in several places. The lexical resource matches band 4 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatically, the response shows a very limited range of structures. Most sentences are simple, and attempts at more complex structures are faulty or missing entirely. There are frequent and pervasive errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and sentence boundaries, such as run-on sentences and fragments ('at the end duty off' and 'life is bond only in daliy rotine life'). These frequent errors distort meaning and make reading difficult, though the general topic can occasionally be deciphered.
