Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the advantages of studying abroad or doing a work placement outweigh the disadvantages. A clear position is stated in the introduction where the writer agrees with the statement. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes superficial. While the body paragraphs attempt to explain the benefits, such as gaining experience, cultural exposure, and teamwork skills, the arguments lack depth and the supporting examples are weak and anecdotal, referencing a cousin's engineering work. Furthermore, the counter-argument introduced in the conclusion is underdeveloped. Because the task is addressed with relevant ideas, it meets the requirements for a Band 5.5 to 6.0, settling at Band 5.5 due to the under-developed supporting evidence and limited extension of ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some overall organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but paragraphing is poorly executed. The introduction and conclusion are run together awkwardly, and the body paragraphs lack clear internal progression. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as starting multiple sentences with 'for why i believe' or 'furthermore, doing work at the foreign side'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the lack of proper punctuation between sentences creates a 'run-on' effect that makes following the logical flow challenging. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5 category, as the cohesion is mechanical and inadequate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'thing', 'work', and 'experience'. There are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as 'educated in abroad', 'fruetfull', 'foreign side', and 'culture exploitation' instead of cultural exploration. Spelling errors are frequent throughout the text (e.g., 'dissadvantageous', 'upcomming', 'benefecial', 'condiyion', 'inhance', 'ecconomy'). Although the writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'contemporary era' and 'reputation', the high density of lexical errors and limited range restrict the score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay. The writing is characterized by a lack of basic punctuation, capitalization, and sentence boundaries, resulting in numerous run-on sentences (e.g., 'In this contemporary era, all university undergraduate courses should include...'). There is a very limited range of accurate structures, and complex sentences are consistently faulty. Frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and agreement (e.g., 'student went abroad', 'it affect on india ecconomy') cause considerable difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in places. These persistent errors across simple and complex forms place this response at Band 4.5.
