Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether undergraduate courses should include study abroad or work placements, but the discussion is confused and only partially relevant. The student conflates studying abroad with undergraduate admission criteria and fee payment issues. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum word requirement, containing only 246 words instead of the required 250, which negatively impacts the development of the task. While a position is stated in the conclusion, the ideas remain under-developed and lack clear logical support throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text suffers from a lack of clear overall progression and paragraphing. The response is presented as a single, dense block of text with very poor organisational structure. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. For example, transitions like 'For example:' and 'So' are overused inappropriately to link unrelated ideas. Referencing is frequently unclear, leading to confusion between the concepts of university admissions, paying tuition fees, and studying abroad.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently revolving around words like 'universty', 'courses', 'students', and 'money'. There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'disscuss' instead of 'discuss', 'felling' instead of 'feeling', and 'Mansu universties'. The range is limited and minimally adequate to express basic ideas, but frequent inaccuracies in collocation and word formation cause strain for the reader and impede clear communication at times.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, featuring a very limited range of sentence structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly constructed attempts at complex forms that result in major errors. Examples include 'The topic disscuss that undergraduate courses', 'Every universty is a different criteria', and 'Because Some students are unable to pay their fees in universty. So they are doing their works'. Frequent punctuation and capitalization errors, alongside tense inconsistencies, cause significant difficulty for the reader.
