Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of including study abroad or work placements in undergraduate degrees, mentioning benefits like new skills and permanent residency, and drawbacks such as expenses and academic burden. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and repetitive. Phrases like 'students are going in the abroad' recur without sufficient extension or depth. The position is somewhat clear, but the support lacks concrete, well-elaborated examples, remaining at a superficial level. Furthermore, the final conclusion fails to properly synthesise the main points. Consequently, the performance aligns best with Band 5, as it addresses the task partially with limited and under-developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs with basic transitional markers such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'To conclude'. However, the overall progression is disjointed, and the links between sentences often feel mechanical or awkward. For instance, 'Such as a student is go to the UK for study and student learn new abilities' creates poor internal cohesion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is sometimes illogical or repetitive, especially in the conclusion which adds little value. Pronoun referencing and substitution are frequently faulty, leading to a lack of smooth flow. This level of organisation and cohesive control sits firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on words like 'students', 'study', 'education', and 'expenses'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'provide much courses', 'abroad students', 'pros and corn', and 'work such as assignement'. The writer attempts some less common terms like 'permanent residency' and 'abilities', but inaccuracies in form and usage are frequent. While the message can generally be understood, the limited range and constant lexical errors restrict the score to Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on minimally adequate communicative reach for simple concepts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily restricted, consisting mostly of simple and frequently faulty sentences. There are widespread and fundamental grammatical errors, including tense misuse, missing articles, and incorrect prepositions, as seen in 'a student is go to the UK' and 'students are travel for education'. Complex sentence structures are attempted, but they are almost invariably inaccurate and awkward, such as 'due to this student achieve a permanent residence'. Punctuation is basic and sometimes missing. Because errors are frequent, occur across all sentence types, and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the writing corresponds to Band 4.0.
