Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people think that every university undergraduate courses should include a time frame in which students spend a specific period of time, studying abroad or do any work. There are some disadvantages of this theory. For example, many student argue that it will increase cost of courses although, i disagree with this. On the other hand, i completely agree with this statement becuase it will provide an opportunity for students to groom in different environments. It will also add travel history to their passports and eventually, it will become more easier to secure visas of different countries, especially for developing country students.

Many students condemn this theory because they think that is will lead to increase cost of courses and then they will not be able to pay. Many parents also raised questions on this theory and their argument was, that it will expose our childrens to spoiled environment in other countries. These concers are factual but I don't think, it outweigh the advantages.

This proposal is based on the facts and modern day requirements. In modern era, this earth is a global village where we are connected with each other but only through social media. By giving this opportunity to students, it will have positive affects on their life style because they will be exposed to different environments and will learn new things. It will also help students in future to get their visas of different countries easily. For example, In pakistan, the visa ratio is very low, especially when you are applying for developed countries like europe etc.

To conclude this, I am fully in favor of this proposal because it will help students to showcase their talent and skills in different environments. so, i think it will benefit students in their future life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of including studying abroad or work placements in undergraduate courses, and clearly states a personal position in favour of the proposal. Ideas are presented, such as personal growth and international mobility, but they lack full development and deep explanation. For instance, the mention of obtaining visas more easily is repeated and remains somewhat superficial rather than fully explored. Furthermore, there are some minor sweeping generalisations, such as claiming that degrees generally increase in cost significantly without detailed evidence. Nevertheless, a clear stance is maintained throughout the response, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response features a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing different aspects of the topic, and a brief conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by basic and mechanical cohesive devices. Paragraphing is used, but the second and third body paragraphs could be merged or better structured, as the third paragraph essentially reiterates points already made about global connectivity and visas. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in phrases like 'These concers are factual but I don't think, it outweigh the advantages.' Overall, the organizational structure is adequate for a Band 6.0, as ideas are generally easy to follow despite the repetitive progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'global village,' 'modern day requirements,' and 'groom in different environments.' However, there are notable word choice and collocation issues, such as 'every university undergraduate courses' (plural/singular mismatch), 'do any work' instead of 'doing a work placement,' and spelling errors like 'becuase,' 'student' instead of 'students,' and 'concers.' While these errors occur frequently, they rarely impede overall communication. The lexical resource aligns best with Band 5.5 due to the noticeable frequency of spelling and collocation slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional clauses and relative structures such as 'By giving this opportunity to students, it will have positive affects...' and 'especially when you are applying for developed countries...'. However, there are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('every university undergraduate courses should include'), punctuation mistakes, and incorrect capitalization ('i', 'pakistan'). Complex structures frequently contain errors or awkward phrasing. Because simple sentences are generally accurate while complex structures introduce frequent errors that occasionally strain the reader, this performance fits the Band 5.5 descriptor.
