Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether the advantages of studying abroad or doing a work placement outweigh the disadvantages. However, there is a major issue with the word count, as the response contains only 227 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum requirement. This incurs a direct penalty on Task Achievement. Furthermore, the position is somewhat confusing, as the introductory sentence ('All bachelor's incoorporate should their time in studing abroad rather than doing professional internship') contrasts with the prompt, and the body paragraphs heavily lean into discussing internships rather than properly balancing both options or fully developing the ideas. Examples are provided, such as the medical student, but overall development remains limited and under-developed, aligning closely with a Band 5 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some organization, but lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are fragmented and poorly structured, particularly the conclusion which trails off unfinished ('which affect both the...'). Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes awkwardly, such as starting sentences abruptly without adequate transitional logic ('Similarly, doing internship help them...'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical nature of the linking words makes the argument harder to follow. Overall, the structural flaws and abrupt endings reflect the descriptors for Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and frequently repetitive. Words like 'experience', 'students', and 'internship' are used repeatedly without much variation. There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'incoorporate', 'studing', 'theoratical', 'intership', 'ehance', 'acess', and 'carrier'. Less common lexical items are attempted, but they are often inaccurate or poorly collated, causing some difficulty for the reader. This level of lexical control corresponds to a Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('A medical student gain', 'doing internship help'), incorrect verb tenses ('students studing in abroad cannot arrange'), and fragment sentences ('which affect both the'). These persistent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and significantly impede the fluency of the text, fitting the Band 5 descriptors.
