Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of including a study abroad or work placement period in university courses, culminating in a clear overall position in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, particularly in the first body paragraph where multiple points are listed as short, simple sentences without sufficient expansion or specific examples. Phrases like "We can taste the new foods" and "We can get experince new thing" touch upon relevant concepts but lack the depth expected for higher bands. The arguments remain somewhat generalised and superficial throughout. Therefore, this performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, where the task is addressed, but ideas remain underdeveloped and limited.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response exhibits basic organisation with an introduction, two body paragraphs attempting to separate advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is hampered by extremely choppy sentence structures and very limited or repetitive cohesive devices, such as starting multiple sentences with "We can" or relying on basic markers like "firstly" and "Secondly". Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks smooth transitions. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as "we will miss the most our family and friends who use to help us in our harddays. But there will no one who gona help there if we get trouble." These issues reflect the Band 4 to Band 5 threshold, where some organisation is present, but cohesion is inadequate and repetitive, making the overall arrangement somewhat mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily constrained. The student relies on elementary words and phrases like "good amount of money", "hard days", and "new things". There are numerous word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, including "undergraduarte", "avantages", "whhich", "wriiten", "styding", "aborad", "tradtions", "experince", "workig", "surive", "homesickness", "oppturinities", and "knoweldege". These lexical errors and the limited range of vocabulary frequently strain the reader and reflect the characteristics of Band 4, where basic vocabulary and frequent errors impede clear communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and frequently faulty sentence structures. There is a near-total absence of complex structures, and where attempts are made, they contain severe grammatical errors, such as "This statement have avantages and disadvantages whhich are wriiten below" and "If we went abroad for our studies in aborad. We can have a new culture different than ours." Punctuation and sentence boundary errors are pervasive, including missing spaces after periods, sentence fragments, and run-on structures. Frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency (e.g., mixing present and past incorrectly) cause significant difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 4.
