Student answer (Band 6.0)
Numerous students believe that all university undergraduate courses should incorporate a particular time when the students get a chance to study abroad or enagage with a work. I think this strategy can offer a large number of advantages which would outweigh the disadvantages entirely, because the students can increase their knowledge by studying abroad and get additional work experiences besides their formal learning.
Undergraduate courses which include a period of time for studying abroad, offer a diverse range of facilities to the students. The students can experience new educative environment from the foreign institutions which can introduce them with modern technological advancements, new techniques for education and so on. In addition, if they can take some courses from abroad, they can engage with new traditions and cultures of the foreign people. Furthermore, all university courses of one country are based on English language and if the pupils can go abroad for part time study, they can learn other languages as well which will be beneficial for their future career. For example, in Japan, a substantial number of universities allow free courses to the students where they go to the other countries, so that they can develop their develop their intellectual property.
Moreover, a work placement can provide the students financial stability and additional work experience. Most of the students especially those who come from poor families can be financially developed and independent by working temporarily besides their studies. As a consequence, this opportunity can also assist them for their personal growth and they tend to be more serious and organised compared to others. For example, because of my poor family background, I often work as a manager in a restaurant alongside my regular studies and so I can afford my own tuition fees and other expenses.
In conclusion, the undergraduate students should get some courses that include a period of time spent studying foreign countries or doing a work placement. It is my belief that these courses can play a significant role for shaping their career and overall welbeing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, arguing that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Both studying abroad and work placements are discussed, and ideas are extended with relevant explanations and examples. For instance, the writer elaborates on how studying abroad introduces students to new educational environments and language acquisition, and supports the work placement section with a personal example about working as a restaurant manager. While some arguments, such as developing 'intellectual property' through free courses, are slightly imprecise in their phrasing, the main body paragraphs clearly support the central thesis. The response successfully covers the prompt's core requirements, warranting a solid Band 7.0 for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from an introductory statement to body paragraphs addressing study abroad and work placements, followed by a clear conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'As a consequence' are used to guide the reader, although referencing is occasionally a bit repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately and sufficiently to structure the overall argument. While cohesion is at times slightly mechanical rather than entirely seamless, the overarching structure remains coherent and easy to follow, placing the response firmly at Band 6.5 to 7.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'incorporate', 'technological advancements', 'financial stability', and 'intellectual property'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'enagage with a work' instead of 'engage in work', 'educative environment' instead of 'educational environment', and 'welbeing' with a spelling error. Despite these occasional slips and awkward collocations, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptors well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'if the pupils can go abroad for part time study, they can learn other languages as well'. There are, however, several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Numerous students believe... incorporate a particular time when the students get...'), spelling errors ('enagage'), and minor prepositional misuse. While these errors occur with some frequency, they rarely impede overall communication, allowing the essay to achieve a Band 6.0 for grammatical range and accuracy.
