Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially and falls significantly short of the required 250-word minimum, containing only 194 words. While the student attempts to present a position regarding whether the advantages of studying abroad and work placements outweigh the disadvantages, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the introduction introduces the topic and the writer's stance ('advantages of this idea are greater than the disadvantages'), but the supporting points in the body paragraphs lack sufficient extension, depth, and specific examples. The conclusion is entirely missing, preventing the writer from fully exploring all parts of the prompt in a balanced and thorough manner.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with the use of paragraph breaks, but the response lacks clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, or inadequate. The writer attempts basic transitions such as 'First' and 'Second thing', but these are repetitive and fail to guide the reader smoothly through a logical argument. Referencing and paragraphing show basic structure, but sentences often feel disjointed rather than forming a cohesive whole. Furthermore, the absence of a concluding paragraph disrupts the overall structure and final logical flow of the essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, resulting in frequent noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word formation. Examples of spelling and word-form errors include 'belives', 'placment', 'in abroad', 'severel', 'experince', 'travling', 'finencial', and 'open-mindid'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'communication', 'independence', and 'culture', inaccuracies in collocation and spelling cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting more complex patterns. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement ('Many people belives', 'some feels'), missing or incorrect prepositions ('spend time on work placment and study in abroad'), and run-on structures without proper punctuation or capitalization (e.g., 'As a result they may become more confident...'). Frequent grammatical inaccuracies across basic sentence forms and punctuation cause noticeable difficulty for the reader throughout the text.
