Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, which is characteristic of this level. While the writer attempts to discuss whether the advantages of studying abroad or doing a work placement outweigh the disadvantages, the position is not always clear, and the overall argument is somewhat confused by contradictory phrasing. For instance, the introduction states 'In this essay before given my opinion in the pron and corns of both first we discuss them,' and the conclusion asserts 'I strongly agree that there are no advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages,' which mixes agreement with the prompt's focus on advantages outweighing disadvantages. Ideas relating to benefits such as gaining experience and drawbacks like financial costs and lack of career prospects are mentioned, but they remain limited and under-developed due to poor expression and lack of supporting details or relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organization with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, such as the repetitive use of transition phrases like 'In our educational system,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In contrast' which do not always logically fit the connection between sentences. Referencing is also problematic, as pronouns like 'their' and 'this' often lack clear antecedents, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of arguments between sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the paragraphs remains weak and mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'pron and corns,' 'undergraduate,' and 'internship placement,' but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that cause some difficulty for the reader. For example, expressions like 'study in abroad,' 'hox the student,' and 'job less' demonstrate a lack of precision and control over lexical items. Spelling and word formation issues, such as 'pron' instead of 'pros' and 'complete their degree doing work,' further restrict the range of vocabulary and indicate that the lexical control is confined to basic, repetitive patterns with frequent slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writer uses a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or attempted complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. Issues span across basic sentence construction, verb forms, and agreement, such as 'All university undergraduate courses should include over a period of time' (incomplete clause structure), 'Majority of university allows student' (subject-verb agreement and pluralization errors), and 'student will doing internship their around 1 to 2 year' (incorrect tense and preposition usage). Punctuation errors, such as inappropriate comma splices before conjunctions and list markers, also pervade the text, showing poor control over complex syntactic structures.
