Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, expressing a personal perspective on whether studying abroad or doing work placements should be included in undergraduate courses. However, the position is not always clear, and the ideas presented are limited and under-developed. For instance, the writer mentions that students need to 'experiment experience the real life work' and 'know about their career', but these points are not extended with clear explanations or relevant examples. Furthermore, some parts of the prompt regarding the comparison between advantages and disadvantages are only touched upon superficially, such as the counter-argument that students should complete their study first before engaging in work activities. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present a fully developed position with well-supported arguments addressing all parts of the prompt directly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is some basic organisation in the text, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The response is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow within and between them is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in ideas. Cohesive devices are largely inadequate, inaccurate, or over-used, such as the repetitive starting of sentences with 'As' or 'It make'. Reference words are sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the exact progression of thought, such as in the final paragraph where multiple ideas about social life and facing difficult situations are linked without clear signposts. To improve, the writer must use a wider range of cohesive devices accurately and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one to create a smooth, coherent argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'respectfully life', 'practically it proform', and 'aimful person', but these attempts result in noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Spelling errors, such as 'aborad' and 'ant', also appear. While the student manages to convey basic ideas related to education and work experience, the lack of precision restricts the clarity of the message. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their lexical range and pay closer attention to word formation and contextual collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are persistent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, such as 'student experiment experience' and 'they will able more confidentially performed'. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences that lack appropriate separation, particularly visible in the long final paragraph. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To improve, the writer must focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct verb tenses, and reducing grammatical mistakes by writing shorter, clearer sentences.
