IELTS Writing Task 2 question
All university undergraduate courses should include a period of time spent studying abroad or doing a work placement.
Do you think the advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that an abroad study tour or an internship should be a part of undergrad courses in universities. Although spending sometime of their course work on internship or study abroad could affect their CGPA, I believe that It is more beneficial because the students can gain exposure of real world work and they could undergo different way of learning, which will enhance their overall skills.
It is very beneficial for students, if they get a work placement during their study at university. It is crucial for their overall experience and they can gain practical knowledge over theoratical concepts. Furthermore, they can start working on different projects in startups, so they can start their earning at a very early stage. As as result, they would be able to learn more and grow more in their lives. For instance, most of the software engineer students get early jobs or they start their earning during their bachelor's courses is because of such internship opportunities.
There are some constraints related to CGPA of students because of work placements included in courses. Focusing more on work can reduce university pupils' attention on their studies, which result in lower CGPA. This is because they start doing compromises on their studies and assignments. Consequently, they would not be able to get job right after their undergrad because of lower grades. This disadvantage has bad impacts on students lives, but don't have severe or long lasting issues. That is why, having an experience of job is more vital for career growth.
In conclusion, all educational institute's undergradute courses should add an activity of studying outside the country or work in a company. There are cons linked with CGPA, but I think such activities are invaluable in terms of gaining practical experiences, which leads to securing a job.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe the benefits outweigh the effect on students’ grades. You address both sides, explaining that placements provide practical experience and may help students find work, while also acknowledging that study time and grades could suffer. The software-engineering example gives the main benefit some support. However, the discussion of studying abroad is barely developed, and the claim that students can earn early through placements is not explained in enough detail. The disadvantage is also presented mainly as a possible effect on CGPA, with little exploration of how serious or widespread it might be. Develop both options in the prompt and extend key claims with specific explanations or examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion that restates your view. This makes the argument easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Consequently,” and “In conclusion” to show relationships between ideas. At times, however, the links feel mechanical, and some references are unclear. For example, “This disadvantage has bad impacts … but don’t have severe or long lasting issues” leaves the reader unsure what “don’t” refers to. The benefit paragraph also moves quickly from practical knowledge to earning and career growth. Use clearer references and explain the connection between each supporting point and your main argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “work placement,” “practical knowledge,” “theoretical concepts,” “assignments,” and “career growth.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “an abroad study tour,” “spending sometime of their course work,” “start their earning,” and “bad impacts.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “theoratical” and “undergradute,” also reduce precision. The range is adequate for discussing the topic, but repeated reliance on general terms such as “beneficial” and “more vital” limits flexibility. Aim for natural academic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although spending … could affect their CGPA” and a relative clause in “which will enhance their overall skills.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical problems persist, however. In “which result in lower CGPA,” the verb does not agree with its subject; “students lives” needs a possessive form; and “they would not be able to get job” is missing an article. The sentence beginning “For instance” also has an awkward construction that makes the relationship between internships and early employment difficult to parse. Review agreement, articles, possessives, and sentence construction, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
