IELTS Writing Task 2 question
All university undergraduate courses should include a period of time spent studying abroad or doing a work placement.
Do you think the advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
All educational institues teaching undergraduate pupils should conduct a lecture that spent time on education on studying abroad and doing work placement. The advantages include enhacement of knowledge and skills that can be usefull in future. Whereas the disadvantage include wastage of time on extra lecture deviating from their actual ciruclum.
Initally awareness through lectures increases their zeel to study hard for getting a dream job in future. Studying abroad is also common in modren era and getting addmision in foreign universities is tough. Teaching about future goals and job placement ahead would benefit students. Additionally it would be beneficial for students to think about their future goals. Also to choose between studying abroad and getting a job in a company. For example a study conducted in university of Harverd, concluded that students who were taught before about job placement and foreign education had higher succes ratio than the university who did not teach students those extra lectures.
In comparsion, some people assume extra lecture about job recuritment would be a wastage of time for level of undergraduate students. These information should be given after graduation or during graduation. Teaching students about future would distract them and scare them from failure. For instance, a student attempt to cheat for final exams as he was scared of failure of not getting a dream job as a doctor.
In conclusion, students should be aware of their future. This would open up the choice they can choose between. There are disadvatages too but those could be elimanated by accurate counselling. In my opinion, with advancement of education and oppourtunities, there should be lectures to prepare students for future beforehead. In order to help to choose better option for themselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You present a position in favour of preparing students for their future, and you include both benefits and drawbacks, so the response is relevant to the question. However, it does not fully address the actual proposal: the task asks about spending time abroad or completing a work placement, whereas your essay mainly discusses lectures that explain these options. As a result, key advantages and disadvantages of direct experience—such as practical skills, cultural understanding, cost, or disruption to study—are not explored. The examples about university teaching and a student cheating are also not clearly connected to the effects of placements or overseas study. To strengthen the response, answer whether the experience itself is worthwhile and develop specific reasons supporting that judgement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting benefits, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of your argument. You also use linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “In comparison,” and “In conclusion.” However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive or unclear: the points about future goals and choosing between options overlap, and the example about cheating does not clearly support the stated concern about distraction. Some connections are mechanical, and the final sentence fragment, “In order to help to choose better option for themselves,” leaves the conclusion incomplete. Make each paragraph develop one central point, explain how its example supports it, and use clear references between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to education and employment, including “job placement,” “foreign universities,” “future goals,” and “counselling.” This gives the response a basic range suited to the topic. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are frequent enough to make parts less fluent or occasionally difficult to interpret. Examples include “institues,” “enhacement,” “ciruclum,” “addmision,” and “recuritment.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “conduct a lecture that spent time on education on studying abroad” and “higher succes ratio.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations, and use vocabulary that describes the task directly—for example, “international study experience” and “work placement”—rather than repeatedly referring to extra lectures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “Whereas” and a conditional idea in “as he was scared of failure.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors in sentence formation and agreement can make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “a lecture that spent time on education” has an unclear clause structure, while “the disadvantage include” has a subject–verb agreement error. “These information should be given” also uses an uncountable noun with a plural verb, and the final “In order to help…” is an incomplete sentence. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, checking agreement and articles, and joining dependent clauses to independent clauses correctly.
