Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response is relevant to the topic and gives a clear preference for work placements, supported by points about practical skills, independence, communication and future employment. The personal example about working as a media supervisor also helps illustrate what a placement might teach. However, the task asks whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and the essay discusses advantages almost exclusively: it does not identify or weigh any disadvantages, so the comparison required by the question is incomplete. Several points, such as meeting people in the field and managing expenses, are listed but not explained in enough detail to show how they support the overall judgement. Address both sides and make the weighing explicit, for example by explaining why the benefits are more significant than the costs or disruption.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The ideas are presented in a broadly understandable order, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Moreover,” “Another advantage,” and “Finally” show an attempt to guide the reader. The personal example also gives the discussion a concrete point of reference. However, the response is largely a sequence of short points rather than a developed argument, and the repeated “another advantage” pattern makes the progression mechanical. Paragraphing is not used to separate the introduction, main discussion and conclusion, while the opening and closing do not clearly frame the essay’s position on both sides of the question. Group related ideas into paragraphs, use clearer links between claims and examples, and avoid abrupt transitions such as “Second one.”

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “work placement,” “academic skill,” “communication skill,” “organization,” and “industries,” so the reader can identify the main subject. However, the range is basic and several expressions are repeated or imprecise, such as “a lot of advantages” and “work like work placement.” Frequent spelling errors—including “exposure,” “knowledge,” “curricular,” and “engineering”—also make the writing less clear and reduce control of vocabulary. Some combinations are unnatural, for example “manage their all expenses by their own self.” Build a more precise range for discussing benefits and drawbacks, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More accurate phrases such as “apply academic knowledge in practice” would make the ideas clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly relies on simple statements and repeated sentence patterns, with limited control of more complex structures. Errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction occur throughout and sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the student … they should have to take part” has inconsistent number and an awkward modal construction, while “This can helps” uses an incorrect verb form. In “when you will going to serch jobs,” the tense and verb structure are also faulty. Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention, particularly where several ideas run together. Practise forming accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled clauses using “because,” “although” and “which”; proofread for subject–verb agreement and consistent tense.
