Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued that all undergraduate programmes should contain a compulsory period of studying in another country or working in an industry. I believe the advantges of this idea clearly outweigh the disadvanyages.

Firstly, in my opinion there are many advantages of studing abroad. If you want go abroad and want to get admission in a good university, i think it would be better for your future because in abroad many countries don't accepte pakistani degrees because of many problams. So if any person get admission in London university, it is a good choice because every country accept the digree of London. I would like to say that pakisani governament should send more students abroad every year, because when a student will live alone in abroad so in beginning he feel sad but after some period he will be sattle and learn many things, and can good study. So it would be easier for him to earn money for the famliy, and he get expirence of the life and another culture. Therefore every one should studying abroad.

Secondly, which people can not go abroad, they have many oppurtunity in pakistan like,Lums university and Punjab university of Lahore are very best opption for study in pakistan Lahore. Like i also studing in Punjab university and my expirience is very well about this. The Government should provide job opportunities for students so that they can cover their educational expenses.

In conclusion, although there are many disadventages like, when a student will go abroad he will miss his family and dont study and not earn money for himself so it is a big adventages. The adventages is that after sudy he can earn money for over family and can support very well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a clear overall view in the introduction: the advantages “clearly outweigh” the disadvantages, and you give relevant points about independence, cultural experience and future employment. However, the response only partially develops the comparison required by the question. The first body paragraph focuses mainly on studying abroad and makes broad claims, such as every country accepting a London degree, without explaining or supporting them. The second paragraph shifts to local universities and government job opportunities, which does not clearly explain the disadvantages of a compulsory overseas period or work placement. The conclusion mentions homesickness and financial concerns, but these are not weighed against the benefits in a clear, consistent way. Develop both sides and connect each example directly to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “In conclusion” help identify its sections. However, progression within and between paragraphs is uneven. The first body paragraph moves from degree recognition to government policy, loneliness, settling in and family income, so the central point becomes difficult to follow. The second paragraph’s discussion of local universities does not clearly connect to the question of compulsory study abroad or work placement. Some linking is repetitive or awkward, particularly the repeated use of “so” and “because.” Organise each paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it; use clearer references to show how each point supports your overall view.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “undergraduate programmes,” “admission,” “job opportunities,” “educational expenses” and “culture.” This gives you a basic range for discussing education and work. However, vocabulary is limited and repeated, and frequent spelling errors make the writing less clear, for example “advantges,” “studing,” “oppurtunity” and “expirence.” Several expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “every country accept the digree of London” and “can good study.” Aim to use accurate collocations and more precise terms, such as “internationally recognised qualification” or “gain practical experience.” Proofreading spelling and choosing natural word combinations will make your ideas easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional and time clauses, as in “If you want go abroad…” and “when a student will live alone in abroad…”. These attempts show some range, but complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the argument difficult to follow. Examples include “If you want go” (missing “to”), “every one should studying” (incorrect verb form), and “he feel sad” (subject–verb agreement). Tense and clause patterns also need attention: “when a student will live” would be more naturally expressed with a present tense after “when.” Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a subordinate clause, and check articles, agreement and verb forms.
