Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both sides of the question by describing possible benefits of overseas study or placements and the stress of living away from family. However, the response does not clearly answer whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages: the introduction says it will argue for benefits, but the conclusion only recommends including overseas study and does not compare the two sides. The benefits are mainly linked to laboratory experiments and skills, which do not fully explain how these apply across all undergraduate courses or to work placements. The point about loneliness is relevant but receives little explanation. To strengthen the response, state your position directly and develop a balanced comparison with specific examples relevant to a wider range of students.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “For example,” “In addition,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the broad direction. However, progression within the main paragraphs is sometimes unclear: several sentences repeat the idea of experiments and skills without showing how each point advances the argument. The introduction is difficult to follow, and the conclusion does not clearly connect back to the question of whether advantages outweigh disadvantages. Use clearer topic sentences, organise each paragraph around one developed point, and make links between examples and your overall position more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt vocabulary relevant to education and its effects, including “cognitive abilities,” “mental stress,” “techniques,” and “economy.” However, the range is limited and many spelling errors make the writing harder to read, for example “considerabel,” “benifets,” “loneless,” and “placment.” Some word combinations are also unnatural or unclear, such as “study half courses,” “question base studies,” and “crucial experiment.” These issues sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to identify. Build a reliable set of topic-specific expressions and check spelling and collocation carefully. For instance, describe students as developing “practical skills” or gaining “international experience,” and explain that a placement can improve “career prospects.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use some complex sentence attempts, including “Although this development offers several advantages…” and “when students perform different experiments…,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “it also present certain drawbackls” and “experties gives more ideas.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, particularly where the introduction runs together after “drawbackls.” Other patterns, such as “when we live away from our families or country,we feel…,” need more accurate article use and punctuation. These errors can make the reader pause or work to understand the intended meaning. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
