All university undergraduate courses should include a period of time spent studying abroad or doing a work placement.

Do you think the advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages?

Student answer (Band 4.5)

All universities in abroad should provide flexible schedule to study and also allow undergraduate students for part-time work. Students have their own responsibilities such as to clear their tution fees or else to take care of their family expenses while living and studying in abroad.Granting permission for work will definitely outweigh the advantages even though students are ready to bunk their classes because they are concern about their tution fees and families.

Drawbacks for doing work during undergraduate courses will impact a student mental because they will loss their interests in their courses and ended up doing part-time jobs. Because of this they will not have any knowledge or experience about their course due to this reason they will not get any well-reputated jobs also ruining other career opportunities for the future. Students showing concern to manage their tution fees and family expenses but not considering and spending enough time to focus on their studies.

Benefits of a work placement will help a student to maintain and manage their financials accordingly. They will experience ups and downs in their life through which they get idea about how to tackle the situtaions. On the other, parents kept many hopes from their children to get succeed and also wanted them to be settled in foreign countries to fulfill their parents dream students will work hard and try to manage all thing at once but sometimes students choose work placements or part-time work rather than spending qualtiy time for their studies.

In conclusion, universities in abroad should provide students non hectic schedule to manage their work and tution fees simultaneously to spend enough time to study their subjects. there are few adavantages that will clear the tution fees and other expenses but this will lead to long term damage because not spending time on theur studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response engages with the general topic of work and study, and it gives a position that work-related opportunities can have benefits but may also harm academic progress. However, it does not answer the actual question: the task asks whether every undergraduate course should include time studying abroad or completing a work placement, whereas the essay mainly argues that universities should allow part-time work and offer flexible schedules. The discussion of tuition fees and family expenses is therefore only tangentially relevant, and the comparison of advantages and disadvantages is not clearly resolved. To improve, address the required placements or overseas study directly, state clearly whether their advantages outweigh their disadvantages, and develop relevant reasons with specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, separate discussion of drawbacks and benefits, and a conclusion. The reader can identify a broad contrast between work’s financial benefits and its possible effect on study. However, ideas are not arranged in a consistently logical progression: the opening shifts from studying abroad to part-time work, and the benefits paragraph moves from financial management to life experience and then parental expectations without clear links. Connectors such as “Because of this,” “On the other,” and “In conclusion” are used, but some do not accurately show the relationship between ideas. Build each paragraph around one clear point, explain it in sequence, and use referencing and transitions that make the argument’s direction explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The essay uses a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “responsibilities,” “career opportunities,” “work placements,” and “financial expenses,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated wording such as “tution fees,” “students,” and “work,” while several inaccurate or unnatural expressions make meaning less clear. Examples include “maintain and manage their financials,” “their mental,” and “get succeed.” Spelling errors such as “situtaions,” “qualtiy,” and “adavantages” also reduce control. Aim for precise collocations and check word forms and spelling; for example, use “manage their finances” and “succeed” rather than the forms in the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “even though,” “because,” and “through which.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships difficult to follow. For example, “Students have their own responsibilities such as to clear their tution fees” has an awkward grammatical construction, while “they will loss their interests” and “students choose work placements … rather than spending” show problems with verb forms and sentence control. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and punctuation, including missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent capitalisation. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected subordinate clause before adding more complexity.
