Student answer (Band 6.0)
An undergraduate degree from universities should include a specific time period for students where they find a work placement or go for and exchange semester. I believe universities should encourage their students because puspose of a degree is not only confined to academic courses and exams, it is much more than that. An undergrad student deserves to learn relevant skills which are essential in job market or get exposure which can help them in grooming their perosnalities and for this they should step into world outside their academics and gain significant knowledge and skills.
A work placement commonly know as an internship is an important aspect in undergraduate degree in this way a student can decide their career path in much better way. Experiencing a proper work space culture and handling all the responsibilites under a job role makes a student industry-ready. This provides significant guidance to a student and make it easy for them to decide for their upcoming career. Also students can evaluate themselves much better as on which skills they have to work further to improve, how to deal with responsibilites in efficient way and most important how to form proper discipline in their life. As these are important elements and without them a human cannot progress in their career.
As far as an exchange semester is concerned students who get this opportunity often complete their own degree a little bit late from sometimes a semester or a year late then their actual duration. This happens because they have to cover courses and credit hours which they missed while being away for a semester. But still missing an opportunitylike this is not a good choice. The exposure and the learning experience a student can gain through this opportunity is unmatchable. The advantages of these opportunitites are higher then their drawbacks. Because a student has to be ready to experience new things after they complete their degree and for these they have to go outside and explore options from which they can learn much better, enhance their technical and soft skills and apply their knowledge.
In conclusion a minor disadvantage of graduating some time late, or balancing a part time job with studies are not that much affecting. A student should never compromise on these valuable experiences just to complete their credit hours.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you support including either a placement or study abroad, and you explain relevant benefits such as career exploration, workplace readiness, and personal development. You also acknowledge a drawback—delayed graduation—and explain why you consider it less important. This addresses both the proposal and the outweigh question. The discussion of placements is more fully developed, with several specific outcomes, while the exchange-semester drawback and its rebuttal are less precise; for example, the claim that the experience is “unmatchable” is asserted rather than supported with a concrete example. To strengthen the response, develop the comparison more explicitly and explain how the benefits apply across different courses and students.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs discuss placements and exchange study, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking phrases such as “As far as an exchange semester is concerned” help signal a shift. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The long opening paragraph moves from academic purpose to skills and exposure without clearly separating these points, while “Because a student has to be ready…” is a sentence fragment and does not connect smoothly to the preceding claim. The conclusion also introduces balancing a part-time job, which has not been developed earlier. Use clearer transitions and ensure each paragraph’s ideas build directly toward the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “career path,” “industry-ready,” “credit hours,” “technical and soft skills,” and “responsibilities.” These choices communicate the main ideas and show attempts to discuss education and employment beyond basic terms. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “puspose,” “perosnalities,” “responsibilites,” and “opportunitites.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “go for and exchange semester,” “proper work space culture,” and “higher then their drawbacks.” Repeated use of “student,” “opportunity,” and “significant” also limits flexibility. Check spelling carefully, learn common collocations, and choose more exact expressions to make the argument sound natural and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “as,” and most of the argument remains understandable. However, errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation are noticeable and sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. For example, “A work placement … is an important aspect … in this way a student can decide” joins two independent clauses without suitable punctuation or a connector. “This provides significant guidance … and make it easy” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “a little bit late from sometimes a semester or a year late” is structurally unclear. The fragment beginning “Because a student has to be ready” also needs to be joined to a main clause. Practise accurate complex sentences and proofread for agreement and sentence boundaries.
