Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is true that now-a-days various kind of facilities are given by many universities with their course such as free of cost books or electronic equipments like computer, laptop. However, many people believe that every university should consider to spent on extracurricular activities like a facility that provides an opportunity to students to study in abroad or a chance to employment.

To begin with, including a certain amount of time for studying abroad will greatly help students by providing some important lessons. For example, when a student go to a foreign everything feels new to him. As a result, he can learn to cope with new cultures. Moreover, it also fosters his communication skills and create a new perspective about different culture. Furthermore, if institutions provide a work placement with their course package, students can gain an experince of a job that will help them to get a job in a well-established company as many companies prefer experience for hiring.

On the other hand, these facilities has some side effects as well. For instance, many students feel lonely when they go to a different culture as they can not relate with the environment or atmosphere. In addition, when somebody go to a compeletely new place, normally he needs some time to adjust there and to do that a lot of students spend to much time that will breake their focus from study.

To conclude with, i think the advantages of having a period of time to study in foreign culture or work as a student outweigh its disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear view in the conclusion: the advantages of overseas study or work experience outweigh the disadvantages. Relevant benefits include adapting to new cultures, developing communication skills, and gaining experience valued by employers; you also recognise loneliness and adjustment time as drawbacks. This covers the task, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the link between a placement and employment in a “well-established company” would be stronger with a specific explanation or example. The disadvantages paragraph could also explain how universities might reduce these difficulties. Develop each main idea with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation to make your argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the main direction. However, some linking is mechanical, and the opening discusses university facilities generally before moving to the specific proposal, which weakens the focus. Within paragraphs, ideas are sometimes added without showing their precise relationship; for instance, the points about cultural learning and communication could be connected more explicitly. The reference in “these facilities” is also broad. Use topic sentences that directly address the proposal and link each supporting point through clear explanation rather than relying mainly on transition phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “work placement,” “communication skills,” “cultures,” and “experience,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “cope with new cultures” and “well-established company.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling reduce precision: “study in abroad,” “a chance to employment,” and “spend to much time” are not natural expressions, while “experince” and “compeletely” are misspelled. Some wording is also vague or repetitive, including “facilities” and “new place.” Build a more accurate range of academic collocations and check spelling so your ideas sound precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “when,” “as,” and “that,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “a student go” should use a singular verb, and “these facilities has” should use a plural verb. In “many students feel lonely when they go to a different culture,” the sentence pattern is not grammatically appropriate for the intended meaning. Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, including the lowercase “i” in the conclusion. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and article use, and revise complex sentences to ensure each clause is complete and correctly formed.
