Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address the topic and give a position in favour of including overseas study or work placements, while also acknowledging financial difficulties. Relevant benefits are identified, including gaining academic knowledge, learning about other cultures, and building confidence. However, the position is not consistently clear: the opening calls the opportunities compulsory, but the conclusion focuses on government support without directly stating whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The disadvantages are only briefly mentioned, and several ideas are asserted rather than explained or supported with examples. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, so there is limited space to develop the comparison. State your judgement clearly and explain how the benefits compare with the costs and practical barriers.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure, moving from an introduction to benefits, disadvantages, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these parts, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Additionally,” and “in conclusion” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: several benefits are listed without explaining how they connect to the main argument, and the disadvantages paragraph is very brief. Some linking words are used inaccurately or create unclear relationships, as in “Although it will help you to learn different cultures.” The conclusion also introduces a government package without clearly linking it to the judgement. Develop each paragraph around one main point and use transitions that accurately show contrast, cause, or addition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “academic knowledge,” “different cultures,” “work placement,” and “financial issues,” so the reader can identify the main subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “increase your ambitious,” “placement department,” and “a of teaching to teachers.” Spelling errors such as “styding,” “opportunites,” and “unproffesionals” are also noticeable. Aim for precise phrases such as “develop confidence,” “gain practical experience,” and “provide training for university staff.” Proofreading spelling and checking how words combine will make your ideas clearer and more appropriate for an academic essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “Although” and a sentence beginning “There are few issues.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors in articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries can make the reader work to understand your meaning. For example, “Education plays crucial role” needs an article, while “However there several benefits” is missing a verb. The sentence beginning “Although it will help” is also incomplete as written, and punctuation is often missing between sentences. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check articles, agreement, and punctuation. Shorter, accurate sentences would help you communicate your argument more reliably.
