IELTS Writing Task 2 question
All university undergraduate courses should include a period of time spent studying abroad or doing a work placement.
Do you think the advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern world,Undergraduate coures has become a major reason for deabtes. The duration for these depends on the course you have selected or the country you live in because in some country the duration is atleast 3 to 4 years.During this students can participate in studying abroad or doing a work placement for a specific period of time.
I partially agree to this statement. There are multiple advantages and disadvantages.Firstly the main advantage includes gaining experience about the course you are studying. When a student travels abraod or works at a company for a short period he interacts with people who have been working their for a long period of time which can help a student whos working there as a intern gain knowledge about the field he is currently studying.Another major advantage includes the grooming of the student. As the student is working with majority of the people who are far above his age it can help him in character building and aslo the importance of teamwork.Same goes for studying abroad as meeting people of different cultural values can affect the student in a good sense.
In contrary to the pros, there are also a few cons. The main con distraction from studies. When a student works at a professional company as a intern he also has to do some office work which can get in the way of his studies.Furthermore travelling abroad can also ruin your sleep schedule for a few days.In addition to this getting used to the enviroment of a foreign country can take quite a few while.
To sum it up,in my opinion it is important to gain experience through studying abroad or woking as a intern in a company. But it should not be at the risk of effecting your studies in a bad way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both sides of the proposal and give a position: you “partially agree,” concluding that placements are valuable provided they do not harm studies. Relevant benefits include gaining field experience, developing teamwork and learning about other cultures; you also identify distraction and adjustment to a new environment as drawbacks. However, the position is not fully resolved: the question asks whether advantages outweigh disadvantages, but the conclusion does not clearly weigh them against each other. Several points are asserted rather than explained—for example, the effect of travel on sleep is mentioned without showing why it is a significant disadvantage. Develop fewer points with specific examples and make your comparative judgement explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, one on disadvantages and a concluding paragraph. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore” and “To sum it up” help readers recognise the stages of the argument. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some ability to guide the reader. However, linking is sometimes mechanical, and the advantages paragraph contains several ideas in a long, crowded sequence. “In contrary to the pros” is an awkward transition, while “During this” has an unclear reference. Use more precise links between claims and explanations, and divide or shape sentences so each paragraph develops a clear central point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “work placement,” “intern,” “character building,” “teamwork” and “cultural values,” so the reader can understand the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “In addition to this.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make the writing less natural: “gaining experience about the course” and “affect the student in a good sense” are imprecise, while “abraod,” “enviroment” and “woking” are misspelled. Some expressions are repeated, particularly “student” and “advantage.” Build a more accurate range for discussing professional experience, personal development and the costs of placements, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “When a student travels abroad or works at a company…” and a contrast introduced by “But.” These attempts help communicate a range of relationships between ideas. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles and punctuation sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “Undergraduate coures has become” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “a intern” uses the wrong article. The opening sentence also runs together after “world,” and several long sentences would benefit from clearer punctuation. Practise accurate article use and agreement, and break complex ideas into well-controlled sentences while retaining a mix of structures.
