Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a relevant position in the opening, saying the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and you identify potential benefits such as gaining knowledge and developing career skills. You also recognise a possible drawback: educated people leaving their country could create a shortage of skilled workers. However, the response only partially addresses the specific proposal. It does not clearly compare studying abroad with doing a work placement, and several claims—such as the effect on a country’s “networth”—are not explained or supported with a concrete example. The conclusion repeats general benefits rather than weighing them against the drawback. Develop each main point with a clear explanation and a relevant example, and make the comparison explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing sides, and a conclusion, so the reader can identify its broad structure. Linking phrases such as “on the one hand,” “on the contrary,” and “In conclusion” also signal changes in direction. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from education as a national asset to overseas study, career promises, and earning money without clearly connecting these ideas. Some transitions are inaccurate or abrupt, and references such as “these advantages” and “they” do not always make the intended meaning clear. Organise each paragraph around one central claim, then explain it step by step, using linking expressions only where they accurately show the relationship.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to education and employment, including “backbone of a nation,” “work placement,” “educated person,” and “skilled.” These choices show an effort to discuss the topic beyond very basic terms. However, the usable range is limited, and frequent spelling, word-form, and collocation errors sometimes make meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “inhace knowledge,” “hihg demand,” “promises carerr,” and “gain a excellent result.” Some phrases, such as “study for abroad” and “learn highly skilled,” are not natural English combinations. Build a reliable set of topic-specific expressions and check spelling and collocations; for example, use “study abroad,” “develop professional skills,” and “gain valuable work experience.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “so that.” This shows some effort to express reasons and consequences. However, the range of structures remains limited, and complex sentences are often faulty, with frequent errors that can make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “every nations main asset a educated person” is missing a verb and has problems with articles and agreement, while “they can growing networth” has an incorrect verb form. There are also recurring issues with sentence boundaries, capitalization, and punctuation. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, and verb forms before adding extra clauses.
