Student answer (Band 6.0)
There are some universities which has courses that provide students with the opportunity to studying abroad or doing work placement for a short amount of time. Some students find this initiative beneficial to their future, while others find it not much worthwhile. In my opinion, the merits of this initiative can outweigh, as it provides valueable experiences for career and makes learning more effective.
Studying abroad and work placement enables students to get familiarized with international culture and work environment respectively. This experince might help them to establish a better career. and make them confident about their abilities. For example, when I went to Italy for my studies, I come to know much about the people of the diverse backgrounds there. They came from all over the world. We shared our experiences with each other and everyone had a different story. This experience helped to pursue career in a company aborad.
Moreover, this inititive can make learning more effective. Studying in a foreign country can help students learn topics which were not in their curriculum. Work placement can provide them with practical working experience. For instance, my cousin did an internship during her undegrade life, there she gained hands-on experience of working with real life data. After finishing the internship, she got really good at the data analysis courses.
In short, the advantages of studying abroad and work placement during undergrade life has numerous positive sides. Even though some might find it exhausting and burden, it is going to help them in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you believe the benefits of overseas study and work placements outweigh the drawbacks. You address both options and support your points with relevant examples, including your experience in Italy and your cousin’s internship. The discussion of cultural exposure and practical learning is on topic. However, the comparison with disadvantages is only briefly acknowledged in the conclusion (“exhausting and burden”), so this part is less fully addressed than the advantages. Some claims also need clearer explanation: for example, how meeting people from diverse backgrounds helped you pursue a career abroad, and how the internship improved your cousin’s data-analysis ability. Develop these links and explain why the benefits outweigh the costs more explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate benefits, and a concluding summary. The progression from cultural and career benefits to practical learning is logical, and examples generally appear alongside the ideas they support. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “For example,” and “In short” help guide the reader. To make the organisation more consistently smooth, connect some points more explicitly: the sentence about your Italy experience moves from meeting people to pursuing a career abroad without explaining the link. The isolated “and make them confident” after a full stop also interrupts the flow. A fuller paragraph or sentence addressing disadvantages would create a more balanced progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “international culture,” “work environment,” “practical working experience,” and “hands-on experience,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “diverse backgrounds” and “real life data.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the writing less natural: “valueable experiences,” “this inititive,” “aborad,” and “undergrade” are examples. Phrases such as “the merits … can outweigh” and “numerous positive sides” are also imprecise or awkward. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas clearer and show more control of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast in “Even though some might find it exhausting and burden” and a relative clause in “topics which were not in their curriculum.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “universities which has courses” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the opportunity to studying” uses the wrong verb form. Tense control is also inconsistent in “when I went to Italy … I come to know,” and the sentence fragment “and make them confident” follows a full stop. Review agreement, verb patterns after “opportunity,” and consistent past-tense narration. More accurate control of these structures would strengthen the response.
