Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this era, where practical approach is very essential for all students. Thus with having some practical experience at a workplace or by spending sometime abroad with exploring new culture and new opportunities, students can become more confident and more ambitious toward setting their long-term goal.

The believe which says that all undergraduate courses should include a period of time for exploring new opportunities is due to their importance. I have experienced a similar scenerio where I was not allowed to spend any extra time out of my courses. Therefore, all of my knowledge in my field was totally theoratical. When I completed my studies, I felt that I am standing totally at zero practical knowledge. Similarly, all organizations require to have some practical experience in the relevant field. So, students like me usually suffers due to no practical skills. But when I did an internship in my fields, I understood all the things, concepts and knowledge in just 2-3 months. Whereas, I have seen some of my classfellows availing Semester-Exchange opportunities abroad where they got a lot of opportunities, they made cross-country friends, and they became more motivated to their goals. While the disadvantege of this is not very big, anyone can agree to some extent that some of the students may loose interest towards their studies but on talking broadly this thing happens at a very low level.

So, I can say i totally agree with advantages of this actually outweigh the disadvantedges. As students can learn, explore and adapt a lot of new experiences and opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you believe the benefits of placements or overseas study outweigh the drawbacks, and you address both options in the prompt. The personal example about gaining practical understanding through an internship supports your argument, while the exchange-student example adds a relevant benefit. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven: the disadvantages are dismissed briefly as having little effect, without explaining possible costs, access issues, or disruption to study. The claim that students learn concepts in “just 2-3 months” could also be qualified or explained. To develop the response further, give the counterargument more substance and show why the benefits still outweigh it. The response meets the stated length requirement; eight words copied from the prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable progression from an introduction, through personal and general examples, to a concluding opinion. Linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “Similarly,” and “So” help show relationships between ideas. However, the main body is presented as one long paragraph, so the shift from your internship experience to exchange opportunities and then to disadvantages is not clearly signposted. Some connections are also mechanical or unclear: “Whereas” does not form a complete contrast with the preceding sentence, and “this thing” has an imprecise reference. Use separate paragraphs for the main benefits and the counterargument, and make each transition express the exact relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “practical experience,” “long-term goal,” “internship,” and “Semester-Exchange opportunities.” These choices communicate your main ideas, and there is some attempt to use less common expressions. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the writing less natural: “theoratical,” “scenerio,” “disadvantege,” and “loose interest” are examples. Phrases such as “standing totally at zero practical knowledge” and “motivated to their goals” are also awkward. Build precision by learning vocabulary in natural combinations—for example, “lack practical experience” and “be motivated to pursue their goals”—and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “where” and “when,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in sentence construction, tense, agreement, and articles. The opening fragment, “In this era, where practical approach is very essential for all students,” is not a complete sentence. Other examples include “all organizations require to have” and “students like me usually suffers,” where the grammatical patterns or subject–verb agreement are faulty. Tense shifts in “I felt that I am standing” also weaken accuracy. Practise building complete sentences and checking each clause’s subject, verb, and tense; this will make your complex ideas clearer.
