Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address the topic by mentioning benefits such as developing skills and becoming more mature, and a possible disadvantage: work placements may affect study and mental health. However, the response does not clearly answer whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The conclusion says that both advantages and disadvantages exist, but does not state which side is stronger. Several points are also difficult to interpret or remain undeveloped, such as the claim that students become “silent” and the reference to international students making their families proud. To improve, state your position clearly in the introduction and conclusion, then explain each main reason with a specific example or consequence. This would make your response more fully focused on the question rather than mainly describing the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
Your response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a paragraph about benefits, one about disadvantages, and a conclusion. This helps the reader recognise the main stages of your answer. You also use a few signposts, including “Secondary” and “In conclusion.” However, the ideas do not progress clearly within paragraphs, and some links are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “when their was an good things their will be also bad things” does not clearly connect the contrast, while the final paragraph repeats the idea that advantages and disadvantages exist without resolving the argument. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each explanation directly to its main point. A more decisive conclusion would also give the essay a stronger overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “work placement,” “international student,” “skill,” and “mental health,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “for their basic need,” “hard word,” and “it impact very very much in study” are not natural or precise in this context. Spelling errors, including “trands,” “pround,” and “aborade,” also reduce clarity. Build a bank of accurate expressions for discussing education and employment, and check spelling carefully. Choosing precise phrases such as “gain practical experience” or “interfere with academic progress” would help you express your ideas more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to express connected ideas in longer sentences, for example when explaining that work placements may affect students’ studies and mental health. However, sentence structures are very limited in control, and frequent errors sometimes obscure the intended meaning. Examples include “All the university has their own rules,” “student well become strong,” and “when their was an good things their will be also bad things.” These show problems with subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several long sentences joined without clear boundaries. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine ideas using accurate clauses such as “Although placements provide experience, they may reduce the time available for study.”
