Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response covers both visuals and gives a clear overview of the main contrasts: undergraduates form the largest user group, distance learners the smallest, and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction while journals receive the weakest. The figures reported for the user categories and service ratings are accurate, and the response selects relevant comparisons rather than listing every value. This makes the account well focused and supported. To make the overview more complete, include a broader comparison of satisfaction patterns—for example, that opening hours and staff helpfulness have no dissatisfied users, whereas books, journals and Wi-Fi all receive some dissatisfaction. The current overview identifies the extremes but does not fully summarise this distinction.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a paragraph on service satisfaction. This logical grouping helps the reader follow the two visuals, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In contrast” signal comparison. It also shows some progression within each paragraph. However, cohesion is not consistently smooth: “Whereas” begins a paragraph without a clear clause to contrast with, and “Followed by” is used as a sentence fragment. Repeated “In contrast” and “Whereas” also make linking somewhat mechanical. Use complete sentences and connect related figures more flexibly, so comparisons flow naturally rather than appearing as separate statements.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant task vocabulary, including “satisfaction level,” “vast majority,” “proportion,” and “dissatisfaction,” and it attempts to vary expressions for reporting data. However, noticeable spelling errors—such as “illustates,” “acroos,” “helpfullness,” and “avalbility”—reduce accuracy and polish. Some collocations are also unnatural: “highest usage of library,” “lowest of library users,” and “satisfaction towards library opening hours” do not express the relationships idiomatically. Aim for precise, conventional chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe a group as “accounting for” a share of users, and say users were “satisfied with” a service. These improvements would make the vocabulary more reliable and easier to read.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is some variety in sentence forms, including a complex opening with “while” and comparison clauses introduced by “whereas” and “in contrast.” The main information is generally understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and agreement remain noticeable. “The full time undergraduate represents” does not agree naturally with the plural category, while “The library opening hours displays” has a plural subject with a singular verb. “Followed by 65% satisfaction…” is a fragment, and the sentence beginning “Whereas, in terms…” is not properly connected to another clause. Punctuation is also inconsistent, including the missing space after “staff.” Build complete sentences around comparisons and check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation to improve control.
