Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the main user group as full-time undergraduates and academic staff as the smallest group, which matches the chart (44% and 7%). However, the overview is incomplete and includes an unclear comparison: the three groups described as having “similar percentage” are 8%, 16% and 25%, so they are not especially similar. The table is barely reported: “helpfulness of staff” is identified as the most positive area, but the response ends before giving the figures or comparing the other satisfaction categories. The claim that availability is the lowest is also unfinished and does not specify whether this means books, journals or wi-fi. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task only minimally addressed. Include a complete overview and select key figures from both visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into a paragraph about the pie chart and another about the table, and “Overall” signals an overview. These features give the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is limited: the first paragraph repeats the idea of percentages without clearly comparing the groups, while the table paragraph stops mid-sentence at “availab”. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In first of all” do not create clear or accurate relationships between the information. Develop each paragraph around a complete point, and use straightforward links such as “By contrast” or “Regarding satisfaction” only where they fit. A complete final sentence and clearer sequencing would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage”, “library participants”, “full-time undergraduate” and “satisfaction”, so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward: “final obtain percentages”, “most higest percentage”, “familiar user helpfulness” and “lowest user” do not express the intended comparisons naturally. “Acedemic” is also misspelled, and the final word “availab” is incomplete. Use precise terms for the data, such as “accounted for”, “largest proportion”, “most satisfied with” and “lowest satisfaction rating”. Repeating accurate chart labels is preferable to attempting unclear paraphrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts simple statements and an overview, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently affect clarity. For example, “The pie chart … illustrates” is followed by the plural subject “table” in the same sentence, while “the pie chart have” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. The phrase “full-time undergraduate gain” uses an unsuitable verb form, and “the lowest percentage … have a acedemic staff” has an unclear sentence structure and article use. The sentence beginning “The distance learning part-time postgraduate…” is also difficult to interpret because the categories are not clearly joined. Use a consistent present tense for describing the visuals, check singular and plural agreement, and build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb. The unfinished final sentence further prevents accurate communication.
