Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the largest user group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, followed by full-time postgraduates at 25%. However, the response reports only a small part of the user-category chart and does not describe any of the five satisfaction results, so it misses a major component of the task. The overview is also incomplete: it notes that academic staff and distance learners are the smallest groups, but gives no overall comparison of satisfaction, such as the high rating for staff helpfulness or the lower ratings for journals and wi-fi. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, which leaves the key features undeveloped. To improve, cover both visuals, select the most notable figures, and compare them explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces the visuals, and the next paragraph gives a comparison between the two largest user groups. The linking phrase “followed by” helps show their ranking. However, the standalone “Overall,” and “Meanwhile,” do not lead into complete, developed sections; the response ends after the latter, leaving the reader without a clear progression or conclusion. The satisfaction data is not integrated at all, and the paragraphing does not establish a coherent account of both visuals. Build a clear sequence: introduction, overview of the main patterns, then grouped details for user categories and satisfaction, using links that connect complete ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “library users,” “satisfaction,” “full-time undergraduate,” and “full-time postgraduate,” and “occupy the least” shows an attempt to describe proportions. However, the range is narrow because very few features are reported, and some wording is imprecise or unnatural. “Different kinds” is vague for describing categories, while “occupy the least among all the users” is not a natural way to express the smallest shares. There is also a spelling error in “distancce.” Use precise terms such as “user groups,” “account for,” and “represent the smallest proportions,” and include vocabulary for satisfaction levels, such as “very satisfied” and “not satisfied.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response shows some control of simple sentence patterns, and the comparison in “Majority of the users are full-time undergraduate with 44% followed by full-time postgraduate 25%” is broadly understandable. However, the range is very limited, with no developed complex sentences, and the opening contains a subject–verb agreement error: “The figure demonstrate” should be “The figures show” or “The chart shows.” The phrase “Majority of the users are” also needs an article (“The majority”) and clearer grammatical framing of the percentages. The fragments “Overall,” and “Meanwhile,” are not complete sentences. Practise accurate sentences that report a figure and compare it with another, while checking agreement, articles, and sentence completion.
