Categories of library users

Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The chart and table depicts the library users categories and the user satisfaction rate of the library. Categories of library users are full-time undergraduate, full-time postgraduate, part-time postgraduate, distance learning and academic staff.

Overall, the highest user of the library resources are the full-time undergraduates. Following the full-time undergraduates, comes the full-time postgrad students who uses the library in the next position. The user satisfaction is more for the helpfulness of the staff. The library lacks in the availability of the journals which highlights a dissatisfaction among the library users.

Looking at the pie chart, most full-time undergrad student uses the library which is 44%. The number of full-time postgrad student who uses the library is 25%. Students are satisfied with the opening hours of the library which stands at 65%. Many students are satisfied with the helpful behavior of the library staff, this is 95%. For the library opening and helpful attitude of the staff the "Not Satisfied" ratio is 0%. Half of the students (50%), are satisfied with the availability of books in the library. The most dissatisfied user percent comes from the non-availibility of journals, which is 20%. Reliabilitt of wifi in the library follows the next on dissatisfaction, this got to 19%.

The number of full-time undergraduate users is highest for the users. Academic staff use the library less than the students which is 7% only. The library staff assists the students which is a positive sign for the environment of the library.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, followed by full-time postgraduates at 25%, and you also highlight the strongest satisfaction result, staff helpfulness at 95%, and the highest dissatisfaction, journals at 20%. These are relevant comparisons and support a clear overall summary. However, coverage is uneven: the user-category figures for part-time postgraduates and distance learners are omitted, and the satisfaction results for books, journals and Wi-Fi are reported selectively rather than compared in a fuller overview. The claim that the library “lacks in the availability of the journals” goes beyond the data, which shows dissatisfaction, not actual availability. A more complete account of the main patterns, with precise comparisons, would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and it uses signposts such as “Overall” and “Looking at the pie chart.” This helps readers follow the broad topic. However, progression is weakened by repetition: the final paragraph repeats that undergraduates are the largest group, already stated earlier, and returns to staff helpfulness without adding a new comparison. The overview also combines user categories and satisfaction findings without clearly separating the two sets of information. Some links, such as “Following the full-time undergraduates, comes…” and “Reliability of wifi… follows the next,” feel mechanical or unclear. Group the user proportions together, then compare satisfaction results, and avoid repeating points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “user satisfaction,” “availability,” “dissatisfied,” and “reliability,” so the subject is generally clear. There is also some attempt to vary wording with phrases such as “helpful behavior” and “dissatisfaction.” However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for describing survey data: “highest user of the library resources,” “the next position,” and “the library lacks in the availability” do not convey the comparisons cleanly. Repetition of “students are satisfied” and “library” also limits flexibility. Spelling slips such as “availibility” and “Reliabilitt” reduce accuracy. Use concise reporting language such as “accounted for,” “ranked second,” and “the highest proportion of dissatisfaction.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the meaning remains understandable. Some sentences are controlled, for example, “The number of full-time postgrad student who uses the library is 25%.” However, agreement and sentence construction errors recur: “The chart and table depicts” should use a plural verb, while “the highest user … are” has mismatched number. In “full-time undergraduates … who uses,” the verb should agree with the plural subject. Punctuation is also inconsistent, including the missing space after “7% only.” Several sentences use awkward structures, such as “Following the full-time undergraduates, comes…” Review subject–verb agreement and build comparisons with straightforward, complete clauses; this would improve accuracy while retaining variety.
