Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify the chart as a survey of university library users and note two accurate features: full-time undergraduates form the largest user group, while full-time postgraduates are second, and staff helpfulness receives the highest satisfaction. However, the response is far too brief to summarise the task: it contains 44 words, below the required 150, and gives almost no supporting figures or comparisons. It also omits most key information, including the other user categories and satisfaction results for opening hours, books, journals and Wi-Fi. The overview is only partly developed and does not convey the main contrasts across both visuals. To improve, write a complete overview and select several accurate figures to support comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening identifies the pie chart, followed by an overview beginning with “Overall”. The ideas are also presented in a broadly sensible order, moving from user categories to satisfaction. However, the response is only one short block, so there is no clear paragraph structure for introducing, comparing and summarising the two visuals. The link between the user-group information and the satisfaction table is abrupt, and “additionally” does not make the relationship between the points clear. Develop a separate overview and organise the details into paragraphs, using clear links such as “By contrast” or “Regarding satisfaction” to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a few relevant terms for the task, including “survey”, “categories of library users”, “full time undergraduate” and “satisfaction”. These show an attempt to describe the visuals, but the vocabulary range is very narrow and several spelling errors make the writing less clear, such as “chert”, “illuestrates”, “Ovarall”, “largist” and “higest”. Some phrases are also imprecise or awkward, including “had full time undergraduate largist figure” and “in pir chart”. Use accurate chart language and collocations, for example “accounted for the largest proportion” and “the highest satisfaction rating”. Proofreading spelling and using a wider range of comparison terms would make the summary more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to form connected statements, including an overview sentence with “Overall” and a comparison introduced by “additionally”. The basic meaning can be followed, but grammatical control is limited: “categories of library users had full time undergraduate largest figure” does not form a clear grammatical relationship, and “helpfulness of staff is highest figure” is missing a suitable construction such as “received the highest rating”. The response also relies on one long, loosely joined sentence rather than showing a range of sentence forms. Practise complete clauses with accurate articles and verb patterns, for example, “Full-time undergraduates made up the largest group, while full-time postgraduates ranked second.” Use sentence boundaries and punctuation to separate comparisons.
