Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the user categories and satisfaction levels. However, the response falls slightly short of the 150-word minimum requirement, which impacts the overall development of the task. While you have identified key trends, the analysis could be more detailed, particularly regarding the comparison between the different user groups and the specific satisfaction metrics. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and include all necessary data points to fully satisfy the task requirements. The failure to meet the minimum word count necessitates a penalty in this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. For instance, the jump between the user categories and the satisfaction table could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more fluid and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main points clearly. You use terms like 'satisfaction rates' and 'undergraduates' appropriately. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies, such as 'the academic staff being the least users,' which should be phrased as 'academic staff represent the smallest group of users.' To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repetitive phrasing to demonstrate a more flexible control of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the number of library user' (should be 'users') and 'As majority of the users' (missing article 'the'). Additionally, 'the academic staff being the least users' is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher band score.
