Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 92 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you have attempted to identify some main features, such as the usage percentages for different categories, the analysis is incomplete. The data regarding the table (satisfaction levels) is mentioned only in a very brief, summary fashion without detailing the specific figures or making meaningful comparisons. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the prompt, provide a more detailed breakdown of the data, and meet the minimum length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'To begin with', which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the final sentence is incomplete ('at last academic staff'), which disrupts the flow and leaves the information unfinished. To improve, ensure that every sentence is complete and that you use a wider range of linking words to connect your observations more fluidly. Paragraphing should also be used to separate the overview from the detailed data analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You use basic terms like 'people' and 'use', which are functional but lack the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. There are also errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'unavilability' and 'library peoples'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'category', 'demonstrate', and 'fluctuate'. Additionally, ensure you use correct collocations, such as 'academic staff' rather than 'academic staff individuals'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The pie and table chart demonstrate the results of survey of library peoples' (missing articles) and 'by helpfulness of staff individuals are very satisfied' (awkward phrasing). The final sentence is a fragment, which significantly impacts the grammatical accuracy of the piece. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, including the correct use of articles ('the survey', 'the library') and prepositions. You should also practice forming complex sentences to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
