Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying some main features, such as the highest and lowest categories. However, the analysis is inconsistent and lacks clarity. The description of the data is often confusing, particularly when discussing the table, where the relationship between categories like 'very satisfied' and 'not satisfied' is not clearly explained. Some data points are mentioned without sufficient context, and the comparison between the chart and table is weak. To improve, ensure that you clearly group data and provide a more logical overview that highlights the most significant trends rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Additionally', they are often used incorrectly or do not effectively link the sentences. The progression of information is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the data. Improving the use of transition words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'highest' and 'lowest' throughout the response. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'availability of journals have lowest satisfied' and 'around not changes'. To achieve a higher band score, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends and data, such as 'proportion', 'majority', 'fluctuate', or 'marginal'. Additionally, ensure that your word forms are accurate (e.g., using 'satisfaction' instead of 'satisfied' when referring to the level of contentment).
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'full-time undergraduate has highest percentage'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in punctuation. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly. Practising complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, will also help improve your grammatical range.
